New Padded Weapons Program
In the fall we will augment our traditional weapons training by developing a new and exciting Padded Weapons Program!
Students learn how to use a series of classical martial art weapons traditionally  (forms practice, visualization drills) and then have the option to test their skills through controlled classroom sparring. The revolutionary foam padded weapons we use for weapons sparring allows students to strike each other at full speed minimizing the risk of bruising or injury.
The word “weapons” usually scares people. We refer to all traditional weaponry as “tools” during class and this helps to create the right perspective for all who participate.
Participation allows students to learn a greater sense of responsibility and self-control while expanding your martial art education and appreciation of movement and body mechanics.
The theory of weapons training flows naturally into empty hand self-defense. Most aggressive incidents involve a myriad of different angles and ranges. With weapons training, you can learn better range identification and the angling skills that will give you greater awareness and confidence.
Weapons “Tools” Practiced -
  • Staff (Bo): Thrusting, spinning, and striking techniques often resemble empty- hand movements, following the philosophy that the Bo is merely an “extension of one’s limbs”.
  • Katana (sword): The katana is a type of Japanese sword, and is often called a “samurai sword.”
  • Escrima (stick): “Escrima” or “Eskrima” refers to a class of Filipino Martial Arts that emphasize stick and blade defense.
Check out our eShop for the special weapons used for this training!   My hope is that this program will broaden your weapons skills and allow you a more realistic experience in weapons sparring and tactics.
